Old Gloves Bring a Special Smile to Our Faces - Courtesy of Hestra Gloves

Introduction by All Weather Goods:  We continue to be impressed by the quality and longevity of the Hestra Gloves.  You can really see the eighty years at work in perfecting these gloves over time.  Their research and development in making gloves is focused on the quality and functionality of a great pair of gloves or mittens, and not on creating the next "big" thing, and this shows in every glove they make.  This article focuses on how Hestra achieves this longevity of wear.

Old Gloves Bring a Special Smile to Our Faces

Every now and then, we see 20 to 30-year old Hestra Gloves on the ski slopes, they often have a beautiful worn look about them but are still perfectly functional.  It's moments like these that make us proud because then we know that we've succeeded with one of our main goals: to make products that last - for a long time.

Durability is also at the heart of our environmental strategy.  Gloves that last for many seasons impact the environment far less than gloves that are worn out after only a short period of use.  We therefore select materials and designs that are as sustainable as possible.  But, it's important to achieve the right balance; if the leather is too thick, it reduces the dexterity of the glove.

Making a glove involves balancing many parameters, including insulation, protection, comfort, fingertip sensitivity and much more.  After almost eight decades in the business, we've acquired great experience and knowledge of materials and craftsmanship.  We've learnt how to best combine different materials, insulations and linings to achieve the results that we want.  Most important is the fit of the glove.  It is a matter of finding the right balance of materials.

In many cases, gloves wear out because the lining becomes thin and the gloves lose their insulating qualities.  That's why many of our gloves are designed with removable liners.  When the liners have worn out, you simply purchase new ones instead a brand new pair of gloves.  That's good for your wallet and the environment.  If you look after your gloves and use leather balm now and then, they'll give you years of faithful service. Some say that the gloves become more comfortable and attractive with age.
